STRESS PREVENTION
The Stress Prevention for Pupils training has been specially developed for pupils and students and provides insight into the origin of feelings of stress and tools to better handle stress. There is currently a huge increase in stress-related complaints among young people. The bar is set high and the social norm is now: 'busy, busy, busy.' There is little or no time to recharge the battery while everyone knows that it is useful to start a task well-rested for a positive effect on the result.
BURNOUT AMONG STUDENTS
A little bit of stress certainly has a function. We can focus better, perform longer or better and with a bit of healthy pressure, concentration also increases. Where does it go wrong? When does stress become unbearable and does it actually have a paralyzing effect? It is not easy to give a clear answer to that because this often differs per individual. In general, you could say that things go wrong when someone no longer listens to the signals that the body gives. There is no internal but rather an external frame of reference. The pressure is largely determined by norms and values, expectations and obligations from outside.
For many people it is difficult to feel and guard their own boundaries. Young people in particular are extra sensitive to “peer pressure”: the pressure and expectations from the social environment. Stress often manifests itself at school through fear of failure and blackouts during tests and exams and can have negative effects when giving presentations, for example. Some students start to show avoidant behavior and keep postponing everything until the last moment, which increases the pressure, others continue to work until late at night, which decreases the efficiency and fatigue sets in. This can lead to (sometimes chronic) stress symptoms and in some cases even result in burnout among pupils and students.
STRESS PREVENTION TRAINING
The training provides both insights and tools with which the students will recognize stress earlier and then deal with it in an effective and healthy way. This not only means for now with more self-confidence and peace for the exams, but above all it creates awareness - an investment that they can reap the benefits of for a lifetime. The training is actively offered by the Municipal Gymnasium and recommended by various other secondary schools in the Gooi.
The training is suitable for students aged 14 and over and consists of an intake, 6 sessions and a final evaluation. If desired, it is possible to receive individual and customised coaching in addition to the training.

Course content | In a safe environment you will learn to deal with tension and negative feelings and thoughts in small groups through fun and interesting exercises and experiments. You will also learn from each other by exchanging experiences and sharing tips and advice. |
