Stress and burnout among young people are not always taken seriously, as is evident from this NOS item/article and interview with Jip: “Don’t be such a wimp. You don’t know what hard work is. Just wait until you get a real job..”
However, stress is a subject that we should take seriously. Sixty % (!) of the secondary school students indicate that they suffer from chronic stress symptoms. These children are very receptive and teachable and with a number of exercises, practical guidelines and background information they are very quickly able to develop new insights and patterns that allow them to deal with stress much better.
Below is a brief impression of what students say about the Stress Prevention for Students training:
“Before the training I had noticed for a long time that I didn’t feel comfortable in my own skin and was very tense during certain tests. Sometimes so tense that I got failing grades that were absolutely unnecessary. When I was able to participate in these meetings, that was really nice.”
“The most important thing I learned is that you have to let go of stress if it doesn’t help you. I knew that, but hearing it really helped. The little tips here and there were also useful and the assignments were also educational.”
“What I really liked about the course was that there was enough variation between listening and doing things yourself. The theoretical parts in between were interesting and good to know and then trying that yourself added a lot of good, for example the 5G model.”
“I found these trainings a nice experience, I went home every week with a good feeling. This was because there was a nice atmosphere, you could get rid of everything and it felt familiar. I also really like talking to other girls my age with the same problems, we understood each other and helped each other. We built a bond that arose purely from opening up. This was very nice. When I entered this training I was not myself at all, very shy and a stress level with the number 3. Now it is 9.5 and on tests about 7. So a big difference. I notice that I feel better about myself and that when I experience stress I can apply many things that I learned during the training…
The training sessions were nice because they started with a short meditation, so you could let go of everything and just come into yourself. The calm and ultimately familiar voice of Eveline was also nice to listen to… The information we received was just enough and very educational. I recognized a lot of things that were said. That recognition and acknowledgement was very nice. I really liked the exercises we did and they added a lot… I have no tips or points for improvement, except that it might be nice and clear to see a small diagram or something at the beginning of the training sessions to see what is covered in the training sessions.
I really enjoyed these trainings and don't know what I would do without them now. I want to thank Eveline very much for helping me change my life, I would benefit from this for the rest of my life so THANK YOU!.”
“It was just a really good training and it really feels like it helped me. I feel less stressed, and if I do feel stressed, I can deal with it better. All in all, successful and also very fun and enjoyable!”
"I thought it was a really nice experience with great people. I learned a lot from it and I actually think it's a shame that it's over. I will really miss the weekly moments with the people who have now become my friends, it gave me peace and it was just always really nice".
“What is the effect of this on your environment? My environment has to deal with a more relaxed and cheerful girl.”
“It was a very pleasant experience that helped me to deal better with stressful situations. During the sessions I learned a lot and the problem was tackled well.”
